If you ever have a miscarriage, it is sensible to arrange to be physically examined at a women's health care clinic. Read on to find out why.

To try to find out the cause of the miscarriage

Sometimes, miscarriages occur for no apparent reason. However, there are a number of things that are known to greatly increase a woman's chances of experiencing a failed pregnancy. If you intend to try to conceive again at some point in the future and want to find out if there are any steps you might be able to take to avoid having another miscarriage, then it's sensible to go to a health clinic so that the doctors at this facility can examine you, run a few tests and find out if there are any issues that may have led to the miscarriage.

For example, miscarriages can sometimes be caused by the presence of uterine fibroids on a woman's womb. These fibrous masses can interfere with the development of a foetus and lead to the pregnancy being unsuccessful. Likewise, cervical insufficiency, a condition which causes the tissue from which the cervix is made to become very weak, can also cause miscarriages.

If a condition of this kind is found to be the cause of your miscarriage, then it is possible that having it treated might give you a better chance of having a healthy pregnancy when you conceive again. For example, if you have fibroids, you could have them surgically removed, or if you have cervical insufficiency, you could undergo a procedure where sutures are used to temporarily close and strengthen the cervix.

To ensure that all of the pregnancy tissues have been expelled

After having a miscarriage, it is sensible to go for a scan at a women's health clinic. The reason for this is that sometimes when a woman experiences this event, not all of the pregnancy tissues in her womb will be fully expelled during the miscarrying process.

If this has happened to you, it is very important to go for a scan so that the doctor can determine if there are any residual tissues and then provide treatment to address this. If you do not go to a clinic and you have tissues left inside your womb, there is a chance that these tissues could become infected, in which case you could then experience sepsis.

Conversely, if you have this scan and there are tissues present, your doctor can prescribe medication to encourage your body to expel them and give you antibiotics to stop an infection from occurring.
